"The Rising Flower" Digital Manipulation 2014 August For my digital collage, I wanted the flower to symbolize me growing as a ballet dancer. I wanted to make a surrealist looking collage to make the symbols stronger. "Joyous sea" Ink on Paper 2014 September “Joyous Sea” was inspired by an artist named Mary Baxter St. Clair. Her paintings inspired me to create a mermaid with the medium of block print. The reason that I wanted to create a mermaid piece was more of an experimentational reason. I wanted to experiment with drawing mermaids and finding different ways to draw them, but there is always a lot of room for improvement. I would go back and change how unrealistic this piece is, but I chose to use it to show the growth that came about throughout these two years. "Finally Free" Ink on Paper 2014 October For my dry point, I wanted to use fairytale again and I wanted the girl in the picture to represent Rapunzel. I wanted to put a twist to it and make it seem like she escaped. "The Explosion Inside" Mixed Media 2014 November “The Explosion Inside” was inspired by an artist named Linda Plaisted which was a photography piece of a young girl holding up a magazine clipping of her face which made me think of how when I was younger, I always wanted to look like girls that were in magazines. This reminded me of how currently people around us try to pressure us to be something we're not. At some point, we end up thinking too hard and our minds explode with our thoughts. I made this mixed media with the women in conflict with how she wants to perceive herself. 99.060cm × 99.060cm "The Artifact Left Behind" Acrylic on Canvas 2014 December“The Artifact Left Behind” was inspired by Andy Warhol’s works. This piece is the most personal to me, because it’s about a death I had in my family. The ring around my neck was used because I found it when I cleaned out her house after she died and I wear it around my neck. "Purple Sorrow" was put into the thought bubble because purple means peace and sorrow because I'm sad about my loss. To make the color purple more meaningful, I decided to make the whole background of the painting purple. 36cm x 34cm "Unexpected Beauty" 2015 January “Unexpected Beauty” was inspired by a piece that didn’t have an artist’s name to it. This was my organic vs industrial which I made out of tiles that were taken out of my own home and I painted with acrylic paint. I wanted this to seem like a rose but a different, twisted style. I decided to use tiles because I wanted to challenge myself into making something squared into a flower that’s usually round. This was a challenge but the outcome of it was worth all of the struggles put into it and hopefully the fact that it is a rose is obvious. 60.96cm x 60.96cm "Artist" Acrylic on Canvas 2015 February I made this painting when I found out that I needed surgery. I felt like I was in a dark place because I couldn't dance for a while, so I made some other colors trying to come in towards me. 30.48cm x 60.96cm "City in the Artist" Acrylic on Canvas 2015 February I made this painting because I'm a dancer and I wanted to make the city in me, but much like Salvador Dali, I wanted to make people look a little closely to see what it really is. 30.48cm x 60.96cm "Artist in the City" Acrylic on Canvas 2015 February For this painting, my inspiration was degas and I wanted to make me doing a ballet move on the tip of a building for Artist in the City. "Lucky Kitty" Clay 2015 March This clay piece took a lot of research, the lucky kitty can be painted many different colors and mean different kinds of luck. I wanted to make a lucky kitty because I have one of my own so I wanted to try and make one. 60.96cm x 60.96cm "Sunset" Acrylic on Canvas 2015 April I made this painting to connect to the theme of fairytales again. I wanted to make another mermaid to practice different ways of drawing and painting them. I used colors that each mean different things. |
